Rockstar confirms GTA 6 won’t have microtransactions or generative AI at launch

Eurogamer · 2 hours ago

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch without microtransactions or generative AI, addressing two of the biggest concerns raised by players ahead of the game's release. The confirmation came during a group discussion with Kinda Funny Games before the GTA 6: Extended Look, when Rockstar staff were asked directly about real-money purchases and AI use in development, replying there are "no monetisations" and "no AI" in the game.

The stance sets Rockstar and parent company Take-Two apart from much of the industry, with Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick previously arguing AI cannot replicate human creativity, and the publisher reportedly having laid off its AI team earlier this year. There will still be a £90 Ultimate Edition, £20 more than the £70 standard version, offering exclusive cosmetics, vehicles, weapons and locations such as the Electric Fang tattoo parlour, with standard edition owners able to buy the upgrade separately. Grand Theft Auto 6 is set for release on 19th November on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
