Roku is launching Roku Labs, a programme that lets any Roku owner try experimental apps directly from their device’s home screen. The initiative is intended to gather user feedback and allow customers to influence how the apps develop, making new features more openly testable than traditional invite-only beta programmes.

The launch includes Backdrops Studio, Roku Immerse, Roku Weather and Roku Stocks. Roku also plans updates including a redesigned home screen in Mexico and Brazil, voice-requested weather forecasts and clearer explanations of search results; separately, it is open-sourcing Roku LT OS and offering a free development kit and training videos for personal projects.
