A Romanian couple, Adina Mihai, 31, and her boyfriend Madalin Dumitru, 30, have been jailed for 17 years at Oxford Crown Court after admitting manslaughter over the poisoning deaths of two men in a sex-scam robbery scheme. Mihai posed online as an escort to gain access to wealthy men's homes, where she drugged their drinks before letting Dumitru in to steal valuables; the case drew attention after the nine-year-old son of one victim gave a heart-wrenching pre-recorded statement asking why the killers "didn't just take his money" rather than kill his father.

The pair, from Ilford, Essex, killed glazing businessman Gary Mouat, 36, at his home in Banbury, Oxfordshire, in July 2025, and Cotswolds-based big-game hunter and millionaire Malcolm King, 80, in August 2024, both using the sedative GBL slipped into wine. They also poisoned two further men who survived. Mihai would lure victims by arranging to meet them at their homes, drug them, then contact Dumitru, who waited outside before entering to steal jewellery and other valuables; the couple were arrested in July 2025 after a victim accused Mihai of theft, and pleaded guilty in June 2026 ahead of a scheduled trial.
