Daily Mail ·

Laila Rouass has been disqualified from driving for six months after being caught at 26mph in a 20mph zone in north London. The actress was given three penalty points, taking her total to 12 and triggering a ban under the totting-up rules.

The speeding offence took place on the A41 Finchley Road on 19 August 2025. Rouass did not attend Barkingside Magistrates’ Court and asked for the case to proceed in her absence, saying she was unable to return from Dubai because of flight disruption; she said she would accept the ban. The court ordered her to pay £438 in total, including a £220 fine, and she will need to reapply for her licence after the ban.

In short

  • Laila Rouass received a six-month driving ban.
  • She was caught travelling at 26mph in a 20mph zone.
  • Three new points took her licence total to 12.

Explained simply

In England, drivers receive penalty points for offences such as speeding. If they build up 12 points within three years, they can be banned from driving under a system known as “totting up”.

The points are recorded on a driving licence, and a ban can affect someone’s ability to travel or work by car. After a ban ends, the driver must apply to get their licence back before driving again.
