Square Enix used the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Berlin to unveil an extended teaser and fresh details for the game's sixth expansion, Evercold, alongside confirmation of the title's Switch 2 release date. The reveal matters for fans of the long-running MMO, as it sets the stage for a new story arc and brings a wave of major content additions ahead of the expansion's launch, while also broadening the game's reach onto Nintendo's new console.

Evercold is set to launch in January 2027 and will be available on Switch 2, kicking off the "Godless Realms Saga" story arc. Announcements included a new tank job called Bastion, new areas Hringhorni and Naglfar, and a new city named Fargarth, plus two crossover raid series: "Ghosts of Desire", an Evangelion collaboration involving khara, Inc. and director Mahiro Maeda, and "Beyond the Lifestream", an eight-player Final Fantasy VII Remake-themed raid developed with director Naoki Hamaguchi.
