Konami has confirmed that Castlevania: Belmont's Curse will launch simultaneously on Nintendo Switch and other platforms on 15th October 2026, putting to rest earlier concerns about a possible Switch-specific delay. This announcement coincided with the publication of the game's first hands-on previews from several major outlets, whose overwhelmingly positive early impressions suggest the title could represent a genuine return to form for the long-dormant series.

The game is being developed by Evil Empire, the studio behind Dead Cells, and reviewers from IGN, GamesRadar+, Eurogamer and Kotaku all praised its combat, art direction and faithfulness to the classic "Symphony of the Night" style of gameplay while remaining accessible to newer fans drawn in by the Netflix adaptation. Critics singled out the whip-based acrobatic combat, varied exploration and boss design as particular highlights, though most caveated their verdicts by noting they had only played the opening hours of the game.

Castlevania is a long-running series of gothic action games centred on the Belmont family, who fight supernatural creatures including the vampire Dracula. Its best-known games mix combat with exploration, as players unlock new abilities and return to previously unreachable parts of a large map.

Konami is the Japanese company that owns the series, while Evil Empire is the developer making the new game. Evil Empire is best known for its work on Dead Cells, another action game praised for fast combat and repeated exploration.

Nintendo Switch is Nintendo’s hybrid home and handheld console. A simultaneous release means Switch owners will be able to play the game on the same day as players on other systems, rather than waiting for a separate launch.
