Square Enix has released hands-on previews and a demo for Final Fantasy Resonance, its upcoming HD-2D remake/reimagining of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, due out this October. Nintendo Life has rounded up its own impressions alongside reactions from several other outlets, giving prospective players a broad sense of what to expect ahead of launch.

Nintendo Life's own preview found solid, familiar Final Fantasy craftsmanship but no major surprises given the limited slice played, while GoNintendo praised its traditional turn-based combat and retro polish without reinventing the formula. Push Square and Nintendo Everything both highlighted the game's striking HD-2D visuals and character animation, with Push Square calling it one of the most dependable titles on the current release calendar. RPG Site noted it is a far more ambitious console conversion than Octopath Traveler 0, given the scale of the original Brave Exvius, while Eurogamer named it a highlight of Gamescom and expressed hope it can deliver on three decades of pixel-art nostalgia.
