Rumour: Nintendo Is Reportedly Considering A Switch 2 OLED Model
A new report from ZDNet Korea claims Nintendo is weighing up an OLED version of the Switch 2, according to three separate industry sources cited by reporter Lee Ki-jong. The rumour follows earlier speculation about a screen upgrade for the console, though it had seemed less likely given rising component costs and a recent price increase for the Switch 2. If confirmed, the move would mirror Nintendo's approach with the original Switch, which also received a later OLED revision.
According to the sources, development could begin as early as this year, with mass production potentially starting between late 2027 and early 2028, meaning any such device is still some way off. The proposed model would reportedly use a "rigid OLED" panel with resolution rising from HD (1280×720) to Full HD (1920×1080), with Samsung Display named as a potential supplier, though Nintendo is said not to have confirmed a release due to the added cost versus LCD. The report comes shortly after Nintendo confirmed a $50 Switch 2 price rise for North America, taking effect in Japan already and due in Western markets from September 2026, and after last week's announcement of a European hardware revision featuring a replaceable battery.
