Rumours of an unannounced Elder Scrolls game are bogus, sadly

Eurogamer · 3 hours ago

Rumours that Bethesda was secretly developing a new, unannounced Elder Scrolls game have been debunked after fans misread a former developer's LinkedIn bio. The confusion arose from a post by Griffin DeClaire, an associate game designer laid off in Microsoft's recent job cuts, who referred to having worked on an "unreleased Elder Scrolls title" without specifying which one, leading some to speculate about a mystery project beyond The Elder Scrolls 6.

DeClaire has since clarified to FRVR that the title in question was in fact The Elder Scrolls 6, on which he worked directly and in-engine before his layoff, adding that he was disappointed to leave before seeing fan reactions to the game. The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced eight years ago and remains shrouded in secrecy, though Bethesda has said staff enjoy how it looks and play it regularly. The studio also has several other projects in the works, including Fallout 5 in pre-production, ongoing support for Fallout 76, and remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas being made with partner studios.

  • No secret new Elder Scrolls game exists, rumour was a misunderstanding
  • Laid-off developer's LinkedIn bio referred to The Elder Scrolls 6, not a new title
  • Bethesda is also working on Fallout 5 and two Fallout remasters
