Run-A-Muck, the creator-led media company founded by Pamela Drucker Mann, Ilene Chaiken and Jennifer Beals, is developing a film adaptation of "Stag Dance," a novella by Torrey Peters, with a writer and director still to be found. The story forms the title piece of Peters' collection "Stag Dance: A Quartet," published by Penguin Random House, which has been named a finalist for the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, making the project one of the more high-profile literary adaptations currently in the works.

The novella is described as a genre-defying psychological thriller set at an isolated illegal logging camp, where a winter dance sparks obsession, jealousy and betrayal centred on an enigmatic axman, Babe Bunyan. Trevor Adley is attached to produce, and Peters said the pulpy, thriller-driven approach reinvigorated the material despite having already spent significant time with the characters. The book follows Peters' acclaimed debut "Detransition, Baby," whose separate film rights are held by Tommy Dorfman's Good Girl Productions, and marks Run-A-Muck's second announced feature after the WNBA-themed romantic comedy "Courtside," part of a slate of more than 20 projects the company has in development.
