Rush icon Neil Peart to be celebrated in new documentary

Far Out ·

A new documentary titled Neil Peart: No One's Disciple will chronicle the life of the late Rush drummer, who was also the band's chief songwriter, from his difficult early career to his rise to prominence in progressive rock. Peart died in 2020 from brain cancer after Rush's 2015 retirement, and the film arrives as the band tours again with a new drummer, honouring his memory with the Peart family's blessing.

The documentary premieres on Canadian broadcaster CBC on 23rd September and features surviving bandmates Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson alongside fellow drummers Stewart Copeland, Chad Smith and Danny Carey. It includes archival footage of Peart discussing his drumming philosophy, and comes months after Lee criticised drummers who approached him about replacing Peart shortly after his death. The release coincides with Rush's ongoing 50 Something Tour, their first in 11 years, which runs across North America until December before heading to Europe and South America in 2027.
