UK booksellers and publishers withdraw Russell Brand titles after conviction
Russell Brand’s conviction for rape and sexual assault has led several publishers and Waterstones to withdraw his books from sale in the UK. The decision follows a trial in which extracts from his memoir were cited by prosecutors in support of some women’s accounts.
Brand was convicted at Southwark Crown Court of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving four women, and acquitted of three other charges. Hodder & Stoughton, Pan Macmillan and Penguin Random House have confirmed withdrawals or that titles are no longer available; HarperCollins’ follow-up to his memoir is no longer listed. Waterstones says it has removed listings and will return the few remaining shop copies, though his latest book, published by Tucker Carlson Books, remains on sale.
In short
- Publishers and Waterstones are withdrawing Brand’s books.
- Brand was convicted of one rape and three sexual assaults.
- His latest book remains available.
