Russell Brand Rape Trial: Channel 4 Film Was Not “Magic Force” That Caused Accusers To “Recast” Memories, Court Hears In Closing Arguments

Deadline ·

Prosecutors told a London jury that a Channel 4 documentary did not cause six women to reshape their memories when accusing Russell Brand of sexual offences. The closing arguments concern whether the women’s accounts are reliable as Brand faces seven charges.

The prosecution said the women were unconnected, had no apparent benefit to gain and recalled events that had troubled them for years. The judge instructed jurors to disregard the documentary, saying its allegations had not been tested in court, and reminded them that the prosecution must prove the case and Brand is entitled to the benefit of the doubt. Deliberations are expected to begin on 3 November.
