Russian guided bombs kill three in Kharkiv with one wounded factory worker left with a nail in his head

Daily Mail ·

Russian guided bombs struck the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Monday, killing three people and injuring 29 others, including at least three children. One factory worker suffered a distinctive injury when a nail became lodged in his forehead during the attack. Residential buildings and warehouses were damaged, and authorities launched search and rescue operations fearing people could be trapped under rubble.

The assault was part of Russia's sustained aerial campaign targeting Ukrainian cities. Russia launched 205 drones overnight on Monday, of which Ukraine's air force said 172 were shot down or suppressed. Ukraine has responded with innovative defences, including newly installed artificial intelligence-operated turrets in Kyiv that successfully shot down Russian jet-powered drones for the first time. The intensified strikes reflect a tactical shift as progress along the 750-mile front line has largely stalled.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, beginning a military conflict that continues today. As ground operations have progressed, Russia has increasingly relied on aerial attacks to strike Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Kharkiv is a major city in eastern Ukraine, located near the Russian border and within range of Russian aircraft. Throughout the war, Russian forces have repeatedly targeted the city with aerial bombardment.

These aerial campaigns form part of Russia's military strategy against Ukraine. Ukraine has developed air defences in response, though airstrikes still affect civilian areas.
