Russo Brothers Congratulate Spider-Man: Brand New Day on Box Office Record
The Russo brothers, directors of Avengers: Endgame, publicly congratulated the cast and crew of Spider-Man: Brand New Day after the film overtook Endgame's record for the biggest domestic opening weekend of all time. Joe and Anthony Russo shared the tribute on Instagram, calling it a passing of the torch, ahead of their own attempt to reclaim the record when Avengers: Doomsday opens in December.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day also posted the second-biggest international opening ever and has already surpassed $1 billion worldwide in under a week. The film opens in IMAX theatres domestically on 7 August, and IGN awarded it 7/10 in its review, while one IGN writer suggested its success signals a narrowing of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's future output to mainly Spider-Man and Avengers films.
