Sabalenka and Norrie exit Canadian Open in last 16

BBC Sport · 4 hours ago

Women's world number one Aryna Sabalenka's campaign at the Canadian Open ended in the last 16 after falling to Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova in a tight three-set contest. The loss extends her run of early exits from major tournaments this summer. In the men's draw, Britain's Cameron Norrie also exited at the same stage, unable to convert set points in his contest against France's Arthur Fils.

The tournament continues to produce upsets, with American third seed Jessica Pegula falling to young Russian Diana Shnaider in straight sets, while Poland's Iga Swiatek advanced to the semi-finals despite struggles in the opening set. On the men's side, teenage prospects including Arthur Fils and Rafael Jodar are making impressive runs through the competition.
