Sabrina Carpenter will play Ginger Rogers in an upcoming Fred Astaire biopic starring Tom Holland, with Margaret Qualley portraying Astaire’s sister and original dance partner, Adele. Director Paul King said the film will explore both Astaire’s celebrated screen partnership with Rogers and Adele’s overlooked contribution to dance history.

The still-untitled film has been in development for more than five years and is based on Kathleen Riley’s biography The Astaires: Fred & Adele. It has the approval of Astaire’s estate, and his daughter Ava Astaire McKenzie praised the project for celebrating her father and aunt; the film also marks Carpenter’s return to acting after focusing primarily on music.
