Sam LaPorta shares disappointment in Lions for lack of extension: ‘Break my f—ing back for the team’

Fox News ·

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta says he is disappointed that the team has not offered him a contract extension, despite his importance to its offence. He told the “Pardon My Take” podcast he will keep playing professionally, but would be willing to leave and find another team if he becomes a free agent.

LaPorta is in the final year of his rookie deal and, as a second-round pick, is not eligible for a fifth-year option. He has 27 catches for 316 yards and three touchdowns in five games in 2026, and previously had surgery for a herniated disc after breaking his back last season. Without an agreement, he could become a free agent in March.
