Sam Raimi is set to collaborate with Stephen King for the first time on a film adaptation of King’s 1996 horror novel *Desperation*. The project matters because it brings together two major figures in horror whose careers have long been connected indirectly, despite never previously working on a film together.

Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, who directed *Final Destination Bloodlines*, are in talks to direct, with newcomer Ryan Brennan writing the screenplay. Raimi and his Ghost House Pictures partner Robert Tapert will produce, while Romel Adam and Jose Cañas are executive producers. King’s early praise for Raimi’s *The Evil Dead* helped secure its distribution, and he later persuaded Dino De Laurentiis to finance *Evil Dead 2*.
