SAMMY HAGAR: ‘I Would Love To Bury The Hatchet With ALEX VAN HALEN’
Sammy Hagar says he wants to make peace with Alex Van Halen, despite the drummer recently calling him a “complete idiot”. Hagar says he would welcome friendship and, if possible, bringing together the different eras of Van Halen, framing reconciliation as part of a wider hope for unity.
Alex made the insult while discussing Hagar’s 2011 memoir, which he said he had no interest in reading. Hagar, 73, has previously said he regretted writing about Eddie Van Halen’s darker side after the guitarist’s death, while maintaining that those accounts were true; he also recalled that he and Eddie eventually repaired their relationship.

Van Halen is an American rock band founded by brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen, with several different line-ups over the years. Sammy Hagar joined as lead singer in 1985, replacing original singer David Lee Roth, and fronted the band until 1996, later returning for another period.
Hagar’s memoir, published in 2011, discussed his time in the band and his relationship with Eddie, who died in 2020. Hagar has since said he regretted writing about Eddie’s more difficult side, while standing by what he wrote; he also said the two had made peace before Eddie’s death.
