Sammy Hagar spent decades with Van Halen. His favourite song is one he’s performed just 19 times

Sammy Hagar says his favourite song he has written is “Father Time”, a solo track from his 2022 album *Crazy Times*. Despite spending years fronting Van Halen and recording better-known hits, he considers this song his personal masterpiece because it expresses what he wanted to say and sing.

Hagar said the choice is not about the song being new or commercially successful: its video has had 277,000 YouTube views, and it did not become a chart hit. The lyrics reflect the wear and experience of a long life, which Hagar believes helped him deliver the song as intended. The headline notes he has performed it only 19 times.
