Samsung’s Galaxy S26 FE pairs last year’s hardware with last month’s software
Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S26 FE, a modest refresh that retains most of the S25 FE’s hardware while adding software features previously introduced on Samsung’s 2026 flagship and foldable phones. The limited changes and higher price make its position in Samsung’s range more difficult to justify, particularly as discounted higher-end models are relatively close in price.
The phone keeps a 6.7-inch OLED display, 4,900mAh battery and triple rear cameras, but moves to an Exynos 2500 chip and a wider 12-megapixel front camera with an 85-degree field of view. US prices start at $699.99 for 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, $50 above the S25 FE, while the 256GB model costs $799.99; new features include AI video tracking, expanded Audio Eraser support, steadier video recording, and AI-based Now Brief and Now Nudge tools.
- Galaxy S26 FE changes little beyond software and a newer chip.
- Prices start at $699.99, up $50 from its predecessor.
- AI tools and video features are borrowed from Samsung flagships.
New here? Start with this
Samsung’s Galaxy S phones are its main range of Android smartphones, with the FE, or Fan Edition, models offering a lower-priced alternative to the top versions. They usually keep some premium features while making changes to the components or design to reduce costs.
Samsung competes with Apple, Google and other phone makers, and updates its Galaxy range each year. The S26 FE’s mix of familiar hardware and newer software matters because buyers may compare its price with more powerful Galaxy models, especially when those models are discounted.
Both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
The S26 FE offers a familiar, capable design while adding a newer chip, improved selfie camera and software features from Samsung’s flagships. For buyers who value current AI and camera tools, a large OLED screen and long battery life, the higher price may be justified by a more up-to-date experience without paying flagship prices.
The case against
Because most of the hardware is carried over from the S25 FE, the modest upgrades may not justify a $50 price increase. If discounted higher-end Samsung models are close in price, buyers may get stronger hardware or better value by choosing one of those instead.
