Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, its first foldable to carry the "Ultra" branding, at its July 2026 Unpacked event. The headline improvement is a new Flex Titanium display technology that all but eliminates the visible and tactile crease that has long affected foldable phones, matching a similar breakthrough Oppo recently achieved with its Find N6 using a different method. This matters because the crease has been one of the most persistent criticisms of foldable devices, and its effective disappearance suggests the category is maturing towards parity with conventional smartphones.

Beyond the display, the Fold 8 Ultra largely mirrors last year's Fold7 in design but upgrades its internals to match the Galaxy S26 Ultra, including a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, 256GB base storage and 12GB RAM. Battery capacity rises from 4,400mAh to 5,000mAh thanks to new silicon carbon cell chemistry, alongside faster charging at 45W wired and 20W wireless (up from 25W and 15W); it lacks built-in magnets but will be "Qi2 ready" via compatible cases. The camera system carries over the 200MP main and 10MP telephoto sensors but adds a 50MP ultrawide, enabling dual 8K video recording, plus support for Samsung's APV pro video codec and in-app colour grading, though it still misses the 10x telephoto lens found on the standard S26 Ultra.
