The full first-series ensemble is returning, while guest presenters have not yet been announced; previous hosts included Tina Fey, Hannah Waddingham and Nicola Coughlan. Laura Claxton becomes co-head writer alongside Jonno Johnson, Liz Clare returns as director, and Universal Television Alternative Studio’s UK team and Broadway Video produce the series, with Lorne Michaels as executive producer.

Saturday Night Live is a sketch-comedy programme built around live performances, with a regular group of performers and a different guest host in many episodes. It began in the United States in 1975 and has become known for short comedy scenes, music and topical jokes.

Saturday Night Live UK is Sky’s British adaptation of that format. It uses a UK-based cast and writing team, while being made with Broadway Video, the company closely associated with the original American programme.

The series matters because adapting a well-known US entertainment format for British audiences involves balancing its established style with local comedy and cultural references. Lorne Michaels, who created the US version, is involved as an executive producer, linking the UK production to the original franchise.
