Amazon has cut the price of the LEGO Technic Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit set (42179) to $51.95, a 30% saving that IGN's commerce team says is the lowest price it has tracked, undercutting the previous low of $60 seen in 2025. The deal will appeal to space enthusiasts and LEGO Technic fans, as the set is noted for offering more lasting engagement than typical one-off builds thanks to a functioning mechanical element once construction is complete.

The 526-piece set measures 9 inches high, 12.5 inches long and 7 inches wide, is aimed at builders aged 10 and over, and can typically be assembled within a few hours. Once built, turning a hand crank simultaneously drives four movements: the Earth rotating on its axis, the sun rotating on its axis, the moon orbiting the Earth, and the Earth orbiting the sun, illustrating how a crankshaft works while also demonstrating how the relative positions of the Earth, sun and moon produce seasons, months and moon phases.
