Scotland hope to appoint Sébastien Pocognoli as Steve Clarke’s successor early next week, signalling a move towards a different style of management after Clarke’s seven-year tenure. The Belgian would be Scotland’s first non-Scottish manager since Berti Vogts, and his appointment would follow Scotland’s group-stage exit from the World Cup and Clarke’s abrupt departure.

Pocognoli, 39, led Union Saint-Gilloise to their first league title in 90 years in 2025 before an eight-month, 38-match spell at Monaco ended with his dismissal in June. Scotland begin their Nations League campaign against Slovenia on 26 September, with Switzerland visiting Glasgow three days later.
