Scotland's Cammy Lynn claimed an unexpected bronze medal on the pommel horse at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, joining team-mate Reuben Ward, who took silver, in a result that delighted both gymnasts and the home crowd. The achievement came a day after Ward made history by becoming Scotland's first-ever men's all-around Commonwealth champion, with Lynn finishing 10th in that event. Lynn's podium finish was a surprise even to himself, given the strength of the field, and it capped an emotional few days for the pair, who are close friends as well as team-mates.

Lynn, 23, from Stirling, was sixth to compete in the eight-man final and produced one of his best-ever routines to move into bronze position, a mark of 13.8 that he initially thought might only secure a top-five finish given Olympic champion Rhys McClenaghan of Northern Ireland and Australia's Ritam Malik were still to compete. Canada's Jordan Carroll won gold, with Ward's silver falling 0.34 points short despite this being considered his strongest event; a late protest by the Northern Ireland team against McClenaghan's score proved unsuccessful. Ward, 21, described feeling emotionally drained after his all-around triumph and a fall during Monday's floor final, but said giving his all on the pommel horse alongside his best friend produced a feeling he "can't describe".
