Duncan Scott gave Scotland an early gold medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games by winning the men’s 200m individual medley in a new Games record. His victory mattered as it provided momentum for the host nation on the opening day and added to Scott’s status as Scotland’s most decorated Commonwealth Games athlete.

The 29-year-old clocked 1:56.38, almost half a second faster than the record he set while beating England’s Tom Dean in Birmingham four years earlier. Scott finished just under a second ahead of Dean, who took bronze, while New Zealand’s Lewis Clareburt won silver; it was Scott’s 14th Commonwealth medal and fourth gold.
