All five Scottish clubs involved in European competition have chosen to postpone or potentially postpone Premiership fixtures scheduled for Saturday, 22 August, to accommodate qualifying play-off ties. The decision reflects a rule introduced in April 2025 that lets clubs playing in Europe delay league matches without needing their opponents’ agreement, helping them prepare for decisive continental fixtures.

Celtic, Hearts and Rangers are certain to be in European play-offs, so their matches against St Johnstone, Falkirk and St Mirren respectively are postponed; Dundee United v Dundee will proceed. Hibernian v Kilmarnock and Motherwell v Aberdeen will be postponed only if those clubs reach the Conference League play-offs; Motherwell lead HB 2-0, while Hibs trail Malisheva 2-0. Rearranged fixtures are planned for midweek on 8/9 or 15/16 September.
