Wes Craven’s Scream is a horror film released in 1996, set in a small California town where a masked killer targets teenagers. It became known for mixing suspense and violence with jokes about the familiar rules of horror films.

The story centres on Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, alongside reporter Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox, and police officer Dewey Riley, played by David Arquette. The film’s success helped revive slasher films, a horror genre built around a killer pursuing a group of people, and influenced later films that played with the same conventions.
