Tamworth Tap wins Britain’s Pub of the Year with community focus
The Tamworth Tap in Staffordshire has been named Britain’s Pub of the Year 2026 and Best Beer Pub, after turning a former information-centre shop into a thriving independent venue. Owners George and Louise Greenway say their success comes from rejecting conventional pub features such as Sky Sports, jukeboxes and fruit machines, while focusing on beer, hospitality and community involvement.
Opened in 2017, the Tudor-building pub offers 12 cask ales and 20 keg lines, attracting both traditional drinkers and younger customers interested in craft and sour beers. It sells around 400–500 pints of Bathams beer weekly at £5 a pint, serves homemade snacks and a street-food-style Sunday lunch, and emphasises staff training, higher-than-minimum wages and exceptionally high hygiene standards.
