See King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Bring Out Max Weinberg at Queens Show
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard surprised fans by bringing veteran drummer Max Weinberg onstage during their Forest Hills Stadium show in Queens. His appearance extended the band’s recent connection with his son, Jay Weinberg, and added a notable guest moment to their three-night New York run.
Jay Weinberg, formerly of Slipknot, has joined the Australian band at several shows in recent years, including their Colorado festival the previous weekend, but was unavailable because he was in Nashville. After Jay contacted his father, Max travelled from Atlantic City and performed as a second drummer on an extended version of the band’s song “Hot Water”; the Queens residency was due to finish the following night before a Brooklyn show.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are an Australian rock band known for changing musical styles and for energetic live shows that can feature long, improvised versions of their songs. They have built a large international following and often tour extensively, including multi-night runs in major cities.
Max Weinberg is an American drummer best known for playing with Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and for leading the house band on late-night television programmes hosted by Conan O’Brien. His son, Jay Weinberg, is also a drummer, having played with metal band Slipknot as well as appearing with King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.
Having two drummers on stage is a familiar feature in some rock performances, adding extra rhythmic layers and allowing songs to be extended. The appearance also links King Gizzard’s recent live collaborations with Jay Weinberg to his father’s longer-established career.
