The overlap, combined with Alaska's ranked-choice voting system, has raised concerns among Republicans that voter confusion could be exploited to draw support away from the sitting senator ahead of November's vote.

Dan J. Sullivan Jr., a logger with a working-class background who ran as an independent, won 2.5% of the primary vote among 16 candidates and campaigned explicitly on his shared name, urging voters to "elect a Sullivan who stands up for Alaska." His website lists no policy positions, and a progressive consultant who previously worked for Peltola reportedly helped write his campaign materials, fuelling Republican suspicions of a deliberate spoiler effort. State Sen. James Kaufman warned that some voters, particularly Republicans wary of ranked-choice voting, may become disengaged or fail to rank candidates properly. The three confirmed candidates, plus a yet-to-be-announced fourth, will face off in the general election on 3 November.
