Seeker Music Acquires JoJo’s Catalog, Including Hit ‘Too Little Too Late’
Seeker Music has acquired JoJo’s original and 2018 re-recorded versions of her self-titled debut album and The High Road. The deal brings these recordings together with a company that already holds publishing interests in two of her best-known songs, while Seeker plans to find new ways to promote the music to listeners.
The announcement coincides with the 20th anniversary deluxe edition of The High Road, released on streaming services through Seeker with a Spanish-language version of “Too Little Too Late”. JoJo, who had her first hit at 13 with “Leave (Get Out)”, said she chose the company after learning about its approach and commitment to her music. Founded in 2020, Seeker says its catalogue includes shares in 19,000 copyrights valued at more than $400 million; it raised $267 million through an asset-backed security in March to fund further acquisitions.
In short
- Seeker acquired original and re-recorded versions of JoJo’s first two albums.
- The deal coincides with a deluxe reissue of The High Road.
- Seeker says its catalogue is worth more than $400 million.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
The acquisition could give JoJo’s recordings renewed promotion and help new listeners discover her music, while bringing the original and re-recorded albums together with related publishing interests. A specialist catalogue owner may have the resources and long-term focus to develop the music, and JoJo says she chose Seeker after learning about its approach and commitment.
The case against
A sale transfers control over important recordings to a company whose commercial interests may not always align with the artist’s priorities, even when the artist supports the deal. Concentrating recordings and publishing interests under one owner could also give Seeker greater influence over how the music is marketed and monetised, raising questions about how the catalogue’s value is shared with the artist.
