Self Defense Family, the long-running Albany art-hardcore collective led by Patrick Kindlon, have released "Reclusion", their first new song in years. It marks a notable return, as the band has largely sat dormant while Kindlon's other project, Drug Church, rose to prominence, though he has always maintained Self Defense Family as his primary creative outlet.

The new single is a clanging, Lungfish-influenced post-hardcore track featuring Kindlon's distinctive vocals over lyrics about isolation and starting a new life away from noise, themes he says are reflected by his current home in Australia. It follows a quiet stretch for the band, which last shared archival material in 2020 and a live album in 2023. Kindlon has hinted at further new music, and the band will play a handful of rare live shows, including dates in Philadelphia and New York with Fiddlehead, and a Chicago gig with reunited band Ink & Dagger.
