Self Defense Family have released their first new music in six years, a track titled 'Reclusion'. It marks the band's first release since a run of singles in 2020, and finds vocalist Patrick Kindlon channelling personal tension into a raw, emotionally intense performance, making it a notable return for long-time fans of the group.

Musically, the track is described as tense and unrelenting, likened to a stretched rubber band that never quite snaps. Kindlon has said he tried to write about family and positive aspects of his life but found the songs still carried an undercurrent of unease; he noted the material was recorded last year but that he delayed its release while wrestling with wanting to get certain lyrics "right".
