Semenyo hails Maresca style of play as ‘music to my ears’

BBC Sport · 3 hours ago

Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has praised new manager Enzo Maresca's attacking approach, describing it as "music to my ears" following his first appearance under the Italian. City lost on penalties to Inter Milan in Maresca's opening match in charge during a pre-season tour of Hong Kong, but the performance offered an early glimpse of the more expansive style Maresca intends to introduce after succeeding Pep Guardiola.

Semenyo, who played the first half and troubled Inter full-back Andy Diouf with his pace, helped set up a goal for Divine Mukasa, while Maresca praised his wingers' aggressive, one-on-one approach. The 25-year-old, who joined City from Bournemouth for £65m in January after fending off interest from several rivals, scored 21 goals across all competitions last season, including the winning goal in the FA Cup final. He also spoke of his Christian faith, including being baptised in December, and thanked Guardiola for helping his development before his departure.
