Senior CBA banker sacked over loan breaches and WeChat messages fails bid to get his job back: ‘Chaotic collection of lies’
A Commonwealth Bank (CBA) home lending executive has lost his unfair dismissal case after the Fair Work Commission found the bank had valid reasons to sack him. The commission criticised Shun Wang’s evidence as a “chaotic collection of lies” after finding he had misled the bank’s investigators and the commission about his knowledge of a person linked to loan referrals.
A CBA investigation began after an anonymous complaint in November 2024 and found failures to verify and record some customers’ income, as well as loan discussions on WeChat and a personal phone. It also identified payments to Zonghui “Hugo” Feng: five customers referred through JS Sonic paid him almost $49,000, JS Sonic made six payments totalling more than $81,000, and Regis Lawyers made six payments worth more than $61,000. The commission did not find that the payments were improper; the bank viewed them as a red flag, and both JS Sonic and Regis Lawyers were later removed from its referral programme. Wang’s salary was $250,000, with bonuses of up to $200,000 a year.
In short
- The Fair Work Commission rejected Shun Wang’s unfair dismissal claim.
- CBA cited loan-recording and policy breaches.
- The commission found he misled investigators about Hugo Feng.
