System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian has suggested that bandmate John Dolmayan, who is also his brother-in-law, may have cooled on his previous support for Donald Trump. Speaking to Rolling Stone Italy about the political rifts within the band, Tankian said he could not speak for Dolmayan directly but believed the drummer had "got tired of Trump, like many others," reflecting a wider shift he has observed among some Armenian-American Trump voters in Los Angeles who he says now regret their choice.

Tankian, known for his left-leaning views, said the two men's political differences are complicated by their close family ties, including children who are cousins and regular family gatherings, but that shared Armenian heritage and decades of musical collaboration outweigh the disagreements. He noted Dolmayan had voted for Barack Obama before backing Trump, framing it as evidence that people's views can change over time. The comments follow a 2021 interview in which Tankian said he respected Dolmayan personally despite disagreeing with his politics, at a time when Dolmayan was posting pro-Trump content on social media.
