Ivor Dodd, a 62-year-old from Rotherham, was sentenced to 16 months in prison after attempting to communicate sexually with a minor. Nearly a decade after his 2017 conviction for attempting to solicit child sexual activity—which resulted in no custody time—Dodd remained subject to strict court orders including sex offender registration, internet restrictions, and prohibition from contacting girls. He violated these restrictions by falsely assuring police he was not cohabiting with a partner who had a child in her home, when he had actually moved in with her. His violations went unnoticed until he engaged in sexual exchanges with an online profile he thought belonged to a 14-year-old girl, unaware that a paedophile hunter group was behind the account.

During their interactions, Dodd shared explicit photographs and described sexual acts he wished to perform, whilst also asking invasive questions about the girl's sexual history and intimate clothing. The hunter group apprehended Dodd and contacted police in February 2026. He subsequently admitted guilt to attempted sexual communication with a child, breaching a sexual harm prevention order, and failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements. The sentencing judge stated that the gravity of his conduct—particularly his disregard for multiple court-imposed conditions—necessitated a custodial sentence. Dodd's legal representative noted that he had received no rehabilitative support addressing his sexual behaviour following his original conviction, arguing that community-based intervention might have prevented his reoffending.
