StudioCanal, Urban Myth Films, Millennium and G-Base have confirmed that Iwan Rheon, Brendan Coyle and Atandwa Kani have joined the cast of Shadow Has Fallen, the third season of Gerard Butler's Has Fallen franchise, with filming now under way in South Africa and the UK. The series follows Paris Has Fallen and the forthcoming Apollo Has Fallen, with Ritu Arya and Tewfik Jallab returning as MI6 operative Zara Taylor and former French agent Vincent Taleb, on what creator Howard Overman describes as their "most demanding and morally challenging mission" into Southern Africa.

The six-episode season is written by Overman and directed by Marco Kreuzpaintner and Alice Troughton, produced by Julian Murphy, with executive producers including Overman, Johnny Capps, Gerard Butler, Alan Siegel, and Millennium's Avi Lerner, Jonathan Yunger and Yariv Lerner. The production marks StudioCanal's second large-scale South African project following the Canal+ Group's acquisition of MultiChoice, alongside Bill Condon's The Road Home, and the studio says further South African cast additions are still to be announced.

StudioCanal's Has Fallen franchise, built around Gerard Butler's character Mike Banning, has expanded into a television spin-off for Amazon's Prime Video. The first series, Paris Has Fallen, introduced a new set of characters working in international security and intelligence, and a second instalment, Apollo Has Fallen, is already in the pipeline. The franchise blends espionage and action, typically centred on threats to political figures or state security.

Shadow Has Fallen is the next chapter in this television strand, continuing the story of MI6 operative Zara Taylor and former French agent Vincent Taleb, played by Ritu Arya and Tewfik Jallab, who return from the earlier series. Iwan Rheon, Brendan Coyle and Atandwa Kani are newly announced additions to the cast for this instalment. Howard Overman, who created the television adaptation, is also writing this new season.

The production is significant for StudioCanal's wider business strategy, as it is one of the first major projects filmed in South Africa since Canal+ Group, StudioCanal's parent company, acquired the African broadcaster MultiChoice. This makes the series part of a broader push by the company to establish production activity in the region, alongside other projects such as Bill Condon's The Road Home.
