A powerful magnitude-7.4 earthquake struck Colombia on Monday 10 August 2026, prompting an outpouring of concern from the country's biggest music stars, including Shakira, Maluma and Camilo, who used social media to express solidarity and urge Colombians to unite in the aftermath. The disaster has caused significant loss of life and widespread structural damage, making it one of the region's most serious recent seismic events and drawing global attention to the affected communities.

The US Geological Survey placed the epicentre near San José del Palmar in the Chocó region, roughly 250 miles west of Bogotá, with tremors affecting Pereira, Quibdó, Cali and Manizales; more than 100 people were reported dead and hundreds of buildings damaged at the time of publication, and the quake was also felt in Ecuador and Panama. Artists including Carlos Vives, Goyo, Greeicy and Nicky Jam shared messages of support and appeals for calm, while the event follows closely on twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela in June 2026, which killed more than 6,000 people.
