Shania Twain has paid tribute to Dolly Parton following the country legend's death at the age of 80, sharing footage of their memorable joint performance from 2003. The pair sang Parton's 1971 hit "Coat of Many Colors" together on a special edition of The Oprah Winfrey Show, a moment Twain described as a career highlight given that Parton was her lifelong musical hero and someone she had always aspired to emulate.

In her tribute, Twain called Parton "pure light sent from heaven" and her "songwriting teacher and hero of grace and humility", adding that there was now "a hole in my heart". The 2003 broadcast also featured performances by Melissa Etheridge and Alison Krauss, tying in with Parton's Just Because I'm a Woman album, which reworked her songs with contributions from artists she had influenced, including Sinead O'Connor, Norah Jones and Shelby Lynne.
