Leeds-based post-hardcore quintet Love Rarely are gaining attention for a sound that fuses math rock, djent, gospel and hardcore, drawing directly on members' experiences of turbulent family lives and addiction. Their forthcoming debut album, Pain Travels, channels this "shared generational trauma" into music that guitarist and vocalist Lew Taylor says felt like the only authentic material the band could produce, distinguishing them in a scene he suggests often leans on cliché.

The 12-track record uses music as a coping mechanism for chaotic upbringings, though the darker themes are not always obvious on first listen, as heard on the genre-hopping opener "Will". The band, formed by Taylor alongside lead vocalist CJ Levitt and guitarist Dan Dewsnap, have built momentum through a nine-date UK tour supporting The Callous Daoboys and a standout appearance at the 2000trees festival, a reception the group say has surprised them given how difficult it has historically been for underground bands to gain traction.
