Shark Tank is a long-running American reality show in which entrepreneurs pitch business ideas to a panel of wealthy investors, known as "sharks," who can choose to offer them money in exchange for a stake in their company. It has aired on ABC since 2009 and has become one of the network's most successful programmes, spawning international versions including the UK's "Dragons' Den". Alongside its regular panel, the show periodically brings in celebrity "guest sharks" to sit alongside the main investors for individual episodes.
For its upcoming eighteenth season, the show has announced this year's crop of guest investors, drawing figures from entertainment, sport and business rather than only finance. The line-up includes internet personality MrBeast, actor Mindy Kaling and former American football player J.J. Watt, alongside several entrepreneurs and media figures. This mix of celebrities and business people is intended to broaden the show's appeal beyond its regular audience.
The show's core cast has also changed, with two guest investors being promoted to permanent roles and one long-standing panellist having departed after the previous season. These shifts matter to fans because the regular sharks are central to the programme's identity, and changes to the panel can affect its tone and dynamics going into the new season, which is due to air later this year.
