SHARON DEN ADEL On WITHIN TEMPTATION’s Next Album: ‘The Sound Is Gonna Completely Change, Like 100% Difference’
Within Temptation vocalist Sharon den Adel has said the Dutch symphonic metal band's forthcoming album will mark a dramatic departure from their previous sound, telling Metal Hammer Germany that the shift will be "100% difference" compared with earlier releases. Den Adel, whose band is marking three decades together, described the change as far more radical than the gradual evolution the group has undergone throughout its career, noting she hopes fans will be "blown away in a good way" rather than alienated by the new direction.
Den Adel declined to give specifics, explaining that the record is still being recorded and developed, so details could still shift before release. Within Temptation have released eight studio albums to date, collectively selling more than four million copies, and their last full-length effort was 2023's "Bleed Out", before which the band had focused on standalone singles rather than albums. The group has picked up numerous honours including a World Music Award and a Metal Hammer Award, scored hits such as "Ice Queen" and "Paradise (What About Us?)" with Tarja Turunen, and has headlined major festivals including Download, Hellfest and Wacken Open Air.
