TSA officers at Dallas Love Field Airport found a pocketknife hidden inside a tube of toothpaste during a routine carry-on screening. The couple travelling with the bag said their son had suggested concealing it to get it through security, highlighting the need for officers to investigate suspicious X-ray images carefully and communicate during searches.

An officer noticed an unusual metal shape near toiletries, but the knife was initially difficult to locate. A second X-ray and closer inspection revealed tape sealing one end of the toothpaste tube; the couple surrendered the knife and were allowed to continue their journey. TSA contrasted the incident with a separate case involving a four-inch double-edged knife hidden inside a baseball bat-shaped torch, where the passenger was arrested and stopped from travelling.
