Network Rail is replacing a life-expired railway bridge over the River Sheaf at Beauchief, Sheffield, to maintain the safe and reliable operation of the line between Sheffield and Chesterfield. The main work, scheduled for 7–8 March, will disrupt passenger services but is intended to secure the route for future use.

A 73-tonne bridge deck will be lifted into place by crane, alongside the renewal of 60 metres of track using 86 tonnes of ballast and 90 sleepers. East Midlands Railway will run amended and reduced services, while Northern will operate replacement buses between Sheffield and Chesterfield; Dore & Totley station’s car park will also be affected until late April.
