A Budgens store in Sheffield's Parson Cross area has received approval from the city council to extend its alcohol sales to 24 hours daily, moving from its previous 6am-11pm window. The extension allows the store to sell alcohol through a serving hatch between 11pm and 7am and adds a delivery service.

The decision faced opposition from Sheffield's public health department, which raised concerns about potential crime, disorder, and public disruption in the residential neighbourhood, noting that 49 offences had been recorded within 100 metres over the previous year, including violent and sexual crimes. Additionally, the department highlighted the proximity of a 24-hour addiction recovery centre 800 metres away. However, the store's representatives argued that police had not objected, questioned any direct link between the premises and reported crimes, and emphasised their commitment to responsible service practices and community engagement.
