Redevelopment of Sheffield’s Stocksbridge library is moving ahead as work begins on a new community hub. The project is intended to replace the former library with a broader facility offering public services, learning opportunities and community space, supporting the regeneration of Manchester Road and the town centre.

The three-storey Stocksbridge 519 building will cover 25,000 sq ft and include a library, community areas, adult-education classrooms, offices for new businesses and a café. The scheme is now expected to cost £16.3m, up from an original £11.7m budget, while completion has been delayed from summer 2026 to 2027; the increase reflects inflation, higher design costs and a £525,000 payment to neighbouring owners.
